Unity Temple, a historic and impressively designed building by Frank Llyod Wright, this UNESCO World Heritage Site stood as the focus for our H. Pres final studio project. Using principles and preservation guidelines, the objective was to design an addition that would serve as a Visitor Center.

Respecting FLW's design, my concept for the addition focused on the opposite of his intentions. Letting the significance of this monumental site be at the forefront and leaving little to no room for competition. The design featured straight forward circulation and delicate glazing to balance the heavy concrete and intricate and dark passageways of Unity Temple.

One of the main themes that connects both buildings is found in its proportion. The addition falls on the same grid as Unity Temple and also shares the same elevation as you enter the building.
